Hi Little Wiggy's!
My name is Raul, but you probably know me as Miss Lala Wiggy. I have been doing drag in NYC now for about 4 years after graduating college in Miami and subsequently moving to NYC in 2020 (to be on Broadway). Obviously, as the story goes, Broadway was closed for a couple years in this time - but as a performer, I needed to do SOMETHING. Gay bars were open and it was in 2021 at Barracuda's Star Search where I got my start in drag performance and began forming relationships that would last me to this day.
Fast forward to 2023 and the hustle of it all was well underway, as was my failing relationship, finances, and overall mental health in the midst of a global pandemic. It was in this time that I found the MCCNY.
In a time where I felt I had nowhere else to turn for support, I found the church. I actually came to know about MCCNY because of a documentary I saw that chronicled the story of Marsha P. Johnson and her sister Sylvia Rivera. Sylvia was just as instrumental in the Gay Rights Movement as Marsha P. Johnson, but surprisingly, less people seemed to know who she was.
After doing some research, I came to find out that she started a Food Pantry to feed the homeless/food-insecure population of NYC right there in the MCCNY, now known as Sylvia's Place. When a church puts its money where its mouth is - and really shows up for those in our society who are the most in need - that's when I remember the whole point of faith in the first place: Love thy neighbor.
I found myself showing up to church time and again and saw a gradual betterment of my mental health and overall quality of life. Eventually, in 2023, I began using my show The Killer Queen Drag Spectacular as a fundraising event for the charities that operate out of the MCCNY: Sylvia's Place Food Pantry and The Global Justice Institute. Please follow the links below if you would like more information on these charities and the amazing work they do:

This event is about a lot of things. It is my way of giving back to the place that saved me from the darkest days of my life. It is my way to showcase my friends in drag and their amazing accomplishments and abilities. It is my way of bringing together all of the chosen family I have formed in my 4 short years in NYC under one roof, to celebrate life and the community we have formed. It is my way of showing what I love to do, with the people I love to do it for.
I really hope you will choose to donate to these important causes as they are a beacon of hope in these crazy times in which we find ourselves. If ever you want to know that there are still people out there fighting the good fight, supporting these charities is a great way of ensuring that - and a great way to be a part of the change we all wish to see in the world.
Donations in increments of $25 will be the equivalent of buying a ticket. (So one $25 donation gets you one ticket, one $100 donation gets you 4 tickets. If you need help with math, please do not consult ChatGPT, please message me instead. Hahaha.)
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and I hope to see you at The Killer Queen Drag Spectacular on June 7th at 4pm-7pm at the Historic Stonewall Inn!
WHEN? Saturday, June 7 @ 4PM
WHERE? The Historic Stonewall Inn, 53 Christopher Street
"The best thing about Lala Wiggy shows is that I create them so that my fans have a place to go. A place where all the freaks are outside and I lock the f****** doors."
